Mick Chatwin was born and grew up in Bristol, England. He attended bristol Grammar school from 1961-1966  and failed most of his O Levels . After a year on the road (and a conviction for vagrancy) he successfully completed his A Levels at Filton Tech College (a happy time). He was a very active young Communist until the Soviet tanks rolled into Prague. Mick was at the University of Essex from 1969 to 1973 and somehow obtained a BA in Sociology.  He lived in London from 1973 to 2008. He has three children Len, Ruby and Evan. 

Mick has a varied work history including a stint as an inflatable wrestling giant. From 1979 to 2008 he worked with immigration law in the UK, first as a case worker, then solicitor and then as barrister. He married Vasuki Rajasingham in 2007 and left the UK with her in 2008 and has been living in Sri Lanka since. He owned and operated an organic spice farm off Kandy for a few years and then moved north to Jaffna, Vasuki’s hometown, and worked as an English teacher with British Council and local schools. Now he offers tuition classes for A Level students in English Literature. 

Mick likes to mess around with his guitar and harmonica and enjoys listening to a wide range of music. He has always been interested in the surrounding natural world and is an environmentalist at heart. An avid reader, he loves fiction and poetry and also writes some. He draws in mixed media including murals. You can see some of his paintings and writings on this website. He is keen on football and is
